MG 1/100 RX-78-4 Gundam G04

Deployed to the 16th Autonomous Mobile Squadron aboard the Pegasus-class warship Thoroughbred, the RX-78-4 Gundam G04 was engineered around a singular purpose: to wield a prototype mega beam launcher capable of destructive power on par with a capital ship. To sustain such devastating firepower, the G04 was fitted with a heavier power plant than its sister unit, the RX-78-5 — a trade-off that defined both its battlefield dominance and its tragic fate.

The RX-78-4 deployed its mega beam launcher only once — obliterating a reinforcing fleet en route to Granada. The weapon succeeded, but the catastrophic strain on the power plant left the unit severely damaged. Accounts of the G04 appearing in the final battles of the One Year War remain unconfirmed and disputed to this day.

Originally conceived as part of Kunio Okawara's MS Collection original design series, the RX-78-4 was later updated by Hajime Katoki for Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space.
