From Prototype to Commander's Mobile Suit

When the MS-14 Gelgoog design was completed, twenty-five prototypes were produced under the YMS-14S designation, with the “Y” identifying their prototype status. Twenty-four went to the Chimera Corps, also known as the Ace Pilot Corps. The remaining machine was assigned to Char Aznable, who flew it against Amuro Ray's RX-78-2 Gundam in two sorties. Later in the war, the prototype prefix was dropped and the machine became the MS-14S Gelgoog Commander Type, a high-performance command unit.

A Powerful Rival to the Gundam

In the series, the Gelgoog combines a high-powered generator and mobility-enhancing thrusters with a large oval shield, beam rifle, and beam naginata. Its generator and beam weapons have higher output than those of the RX-78-2, while Char's first encounter with Amuro demonstrates its impressive speed and mobility. Those advantages come with trade-offs: its armor is thinner and less durable than the Gundam's Luna Titanium armor, and the absence of built-in weapons leaves it vulnerable to being disarmed, as Amuro demonstrates.

The Road to Mass Production

Zeon considered the Gelgoog an excellent design and made relatively few changes following test-pilot feedback. Additional armor improved durability at the expense of some speed. The finalized mass-production model, designated MS-14A Gelgoog, was intended to counter the Earth Federation's RGM-79 forces as they pushed deeper into Zeon territory.

Make Room for a One Year War Icon

Enjoy the build, then display the Gelgoog alongside your favorite Federation and Zeon mobile suits. Add this MG 1/100 Ver 2.0 kit to your collection and bring another chapter of Char and Amuro's rivalry to your shelf.
