HG 1/144 Gundam Virsago Returns With an All-New Kit After 30 Years

Bandai Spirits is bringing a heavy hitter from After War Gundam X back to the High Grade lineup. The company has revealed the box art and new product photos for the HG 1/144 Gundam Virsago, an all-new kit scheduled to arrive in Japan on October 31, 2026.

A Gundam X Heavy Hitter Gets a Modern HG Makeover

The NRX-0013 Gundam Virsago was the first Gundam-type mobile suit developed after the Seventh Space War. Its imposing red armor and oversized weapons made an immediate impression, and the new HG kit brings that presence into a modern 1/144-scale release with updated proportions, sharper detail, and improved articulation.

The Virsago comes equipped with the Flash System, although no dedicated remote mobile suit was produced for it. Its real centerpiece is the powerful Mega Sonic Cannon built into its abdomen—a weapon with enough firepower to disable a battleship. Extendable claw arms, Claw Beam Cannons, a beam saber, and twin Strike Shooters round out its versatile loadout.

Deploy the Claw Arms and Mega Sonic Cannon

This release uses all-new tooling to recreate the Virsago's signature weapon systems. The abdominal Mega Sonic Cannon can be displayed in its deployed configuration, while the telescoping claw arms extend for dramatic close-range poses. The claws also help anchor the mobile suit when firing its heavy weapons.

The kit includes multiple hand options, twin Strike Shooters, a combined-weapon grip, and a beam saber effect. Whether displayed with its claws extended or armed with its firearms, the Virsago offers plenty of shelf presence.

A Nod to the Original 1996 Kit

For longtime Gundam X fans, one promotional image offers a particularly nice throwback: it recreates the packaging art from the original 1996 HG Gundam Virsago. It is a fitting tribute as the mobile suit returns with an all-new High Grade release roughly three decades later.
