HG 1/144 Psycho Gundam Special Coating Revealed for Gundam Base Hong Kong

THE GUNDAM BASE HONG KONG has revealed a new exclusive kit from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: the HG 1/144 Psycho Gundam [Special Coating]. The announcement gives collectors their first look at the box art and a dark, highly reflective finish for the enormous mobile armor. The price and official release date will be announced later.

A Special Release for Gundam Base Hong Kong

The reveal arrives as the official Hong Kong Gunpla flagship store prepares for its first-anniversary exhibition and limited-time store, scheduled to run from November 21, 2026, through January 10, 2027. This Gundam Base exclusive adds a distinctive Hong Kong connection to one of Zeta Gundam’s most imposing machines.

The One-Man Fortress of New Hong Kong

The MRX-009 Psycho Gundam is a massive transformable mobile armor developed by the Earth Federation Forces’ Murasame Research Institute for Newtype pilots. Its Psycommu system controls an array of Mega Particle Cannons mounted across its body, while an I-field generator provides defensive coverage around the machine.

Piloted by Cyber-Newtype Four Murasame, the Psycho Gundam first appeared in episode 17, where its attack turned the streets of New Hong Kong into a battlefield. Its ability to switch between mobile armor and mobile suit forms, combined with its overwhelming firepower, made it feel less like a conventional weapon and more like a one-man fortress.

A Dark Metallic Take on the 2004 HG Kit

The kit retains the sculpt of the original HG Psycho Gundam released in 2004, but the new finish dramatically changes its shelf presence. Areas that were black on the standard release now use a deep gray treatment with a plating-like sheen. The display model catches the light across its broad armor surfaces, creating an even more metallic appearance than the earlier Gundam Base Limited Metallic version.

Box Art Inspired by the Battle of New Hong Kong

The newly revealed package illustration shows the Psycho Gundam confronting the Gundam Mk-II amid the streets and Chinese storefront signs of New Hong Kong. The Mk-II emphasizes the Psycho Gundam’s extraordinary scale, while the setting gives this Hong Kong flagship exclusive a particularly fitting connection to the anime.

The exhibition display also makes the kit’s size easy to appreciate. Even beside other HG releases, the Psycho Gundam’s broad shoulders, heavy limbs, and towering proportions stand out immediately. The Special Coating finish adds another layer of visual impact to an already dominant display piece.
